What is Kapalbhati Pranayama?

Kapalbhati Pranayama is a breathing exercise that is considered as kriya or internal purification. This is a part of yoga known as pranayama. This word has been taken from Sanskrit, here ‘kapal’ means ‘skull’ or ‘bhati’ means to ‘shine’.

This cleans the internal organs, gives the energy to the nervous and circulates the system, also improve metabolism. Many yogis practice this breathing technique to clean the nadis. Kapalbhati pranayama increases the oxygen supply in the body that improves the focus and mind.

How to do Kapalbhati Pranayama

  1. Sit comfortable in cross leg position, keep your spine straight.
  2. Palms on your knees, slowly take deep inhale through your nose expanding your stomach.
  3. Exhale quickly through your nose squeezing your stomach, after exhale your stomach will inhale and expand automatically.
  4. Now inhale pulling the air in, your stomach will expand. Then quickly exhale pushing the air out through your nose.
  5. Repeat the same.

Do this for at least 10 minutes or until you feel tired. You can increase the number of repeating as u feel comfortable. And also you can increase the speed of breathing as u feel comfortable. Young people can do this faster but old age people can do this slowly.
